The first time I heard this song from the Newsboys was at one of their concerts. Their music heard in person is such a unique experience. When I was there, I was singing along to all the familiar songs I listened to in my car, but then they started to sing this song I had never heard before. As I listened and saw the lyrics span across the video screen above the stage, I loved what this song was all about. It became one of my new favorite songs from the Newsboys. Its message is profound and I think everybody can take something away from this song.
Hope you enjoy this music breakdown!
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
All my life I had big dreams
To do big things and make a change
And all the while I just passed by the simple needs
Right here next to me
‘Cause there’s a breaking heart
That’s falling apart and tear-filled eyes
Looking back at me
God, won’t you help me to see
In life, we all have deep, big dreams we want to come to pass. Usually our deepest hearts desires are just that, deep. Dreaming big is not a bad thing, but we often think we need to be somewhere else or have a bigger platform to make a difference.
But the truth is, there are people around us everywhere that need our help and hope.
People that need a smile, a hug, or help checking out at the grocery store.
The simplest act of kindness can change that persons life.
But too often, we are not paying attention enough to the ones who need our kindness most.
We must say this simple but powerful, life changing prayer in our quiet, loud whispers:
“God, won’t you help me see who needs me and reveal where I can be a blessing to someone…”
Chorus:
It’s a prayer in an empty room
Little things we do when nobody’s around
A hand reaching out
To a heart in doubt
It’s the smallest spark
That can light the dark
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
Something I have learned in life is, the small things are really the big things.
One prayer makes a difference.
The little things we do when no one is watching us are important because someone is always watching: Jesus.
When someone is going through a challenging season, the smallest thing makes the biggest difference.
Your smile, your heart can light up the dark.
The smallest thing can change a life.
And that is how, you and me will change the world.
Next Section:
A million little drops of rain
Can be enough to cause a tidal wave
A flood of your love that no one can contain
‘Cause there’s an empty soul that wants to be known
Around me now that I can lead to you
Revealing love that won’t refuse
Can you imagine if everyone in the world would do one act of kindness everyday for a stranger?
What a different world we would live in.
We are the little rain drops in these lyrics and if we all worked in love together, we could cause a tidal wave in our world. If we could exhibit God’s love everyday and emulate Christ, we would change our lives and the whole entire world.
There are so many lost souls that need the hope of Jesus Christ, because we live in a broken world where so many forces are working against Gods word.
It is so important to be aware of who is around us and to speak hope and life into others who desperately need it. And to reveal to others that being fully known in Christ, is the path to abundant life.
We can lead others down ‘Jesus’s path’, and God will take over and reveal His love that never fails.
Chorus Repeats
Next Section:
It’s the kind words
A simple smile
More than showing up
Going the extra mile
It’s giving everything
When you’ve got nothing left
Sharing a little hope
With a single breath
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
We are all called to something higher in this life. We must go the extra mile and show kindness, even when others are not.
Even when it feels we have nothing left to give of ourselves, we must give and show kindness above all else.
We do not know who needs it the most and needs that hope, but Jesus knows and the people that cross our path, are for a bigger reason.
I love how it says, “sharing a little hope with a single breath…”
That is all it takes, one breath to point others to Jesus and give them the ultimate hope and only hope we have.
Last Section (Repeats lyrics from earlier):
It’s a prayer in an empty room
Little things we do when nobody’s around
A hand reaching out
To a heart in doubt
It’s the smallest spark
That can light the dark
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
That’s how you change the world
It’s the smallest spark that can light the dark
Don’t forget that, when you feel you are not in a position of influence or feel like God can’t use you. That is such a lie from the enemy.
The beauty of God, is He can use a simple act and turn it into a mountain of impact.
Even if you won’t see the fruit of it here, you can trust God that He will produce fruit from it, when and how He wants to.
We are here to shine the light of Jesus wherever we go.
That is how we can change the world.
Verses Incorporated in Song:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 (NIV)
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)
“Because the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.” Lamentations 3:22 (NIV)
Let’s go out and change the world one act of kindness at a time.
Our world needs all the light, love, and kindness it can get.
I hope you give this song a listen, let the lyrics sink into your heart and I pray it challenges you to keep giving and showing kindness, even if it is not shown toward you.
God sees all you do and knows your heart.
He will bless you for that.
Hope you enjoyed the song and breakdown!
I also recommend seeing the Newsboys in concert, when our world “opens” up again..They never disappoint!
Have a blessed week!
All for Jesus,
Steph
