One Awkward Moment by Casting Crowns
As I was on Pandora listening to my worship music, I usually repeat my favorites on a loop, but a new song came on that I did not recognize. I almost skipped it but the title caught my attention. So, I left it on and it stopped me in my tracks. All worship music is powerful but this one expresses a message that talks about the number one thing and mission for us believers to do: Spread the gospel to the hurting.
This has been on my heart a lot lately and hearing this song at this time, makes me feel like God was speaking directly to me.
So I really wanted to share it with all of you!
So thankful I didn’t skip this song, because it is one of my new favorites.
I hope you enjoy this music breakdown !
She’s a castaway
Stranded on the island of her yesterdays
Freedom was her ocean, but she got swept away
Little princess dreaming got lost somewhere in the waves
Left behind
She’s been going at this all alone since she was nine
But God loves you, He’s got a plan for you, she’s heard all the lines
But when she opens up her heart nobody’s got the time
These first lines break my heart.
This girl portrayed in the song is struggling and is lost.
I know I can relate to her and everyone can, because we all struggle and go through trials in life.
I know I was in a certain time in my life, when I was not sure that God loved me and had a plan for me. It is a very hopeless thought and I can strongly relate.
Next section:
Could this be the day that you come to the rescue?
She’s desperate for the light but she’s never gonna ask you
When people are in despair, they do not always ask for help.
But on the inside, like I was, they are desperate for it.
Chorus:
One word, one hand
Tell me, is that too high a price?
One awkward moment
Could be the one that saves a life
Your hurt, your scars
God will use to open up her eyes
One awkward moment
You’ll see the gospel come alive
Come alive
When I was listening to this for the first time and the first chorus played, it stopped me and spoke to my heart directly.
I realized what it was about.
As believers, we are on a very important mission in this life:
We are to be the light of Jesus in a world that can be very dark and broken.
We are to point others to hope and a love that is only found in Jesus.
Like Jesus said to the disciples after He rose and came back, we must go out into the world and spread the good news and truth of the gospel and bring others to Him to be saved.
Not everyone will be receptive and some may even think you are crazy or throw insults at you, like Jesus endured while He walked the earth.
But one awkward moment can save someone’s life.
That is so powerful.
Jesus can and will use our hurt and scars that we have lived, to speak life into others.
We are all connected and have a individual purpose that God made just for us to fulfill.
I was listening to a pastor on a podcast the other day and he said no one can relate to the perfect moments in our faith walks. They relate to the hurt, the trials, and difficult things we go through.
If we let Him, Jesus turns those scars into our testimonies to glorify Him and those testimonies will/can help others turn to Jesus as well.
Jesus will use us to reach others for His kingdom.
We are His messengers.
Next section:
Who are you to say
You’ve got shipwrecks of your own
You’re too young in your faith
She’s a smart one, she will see right through your masquerade
You’re scared that what you don’t know might push her away
But don’t cave to the weight of the fear that you’re feeling
‘Cause she’s standing right here and you’re here for a reason
We can have insecurities, fear, and lies creep into our minds.
It can be scary.
I know I felt these very verses strongly before I started this ministry blog.
I have had so many “shipwrecks” in my life and who am I to start a ministry of my own?
The truth is, you and I can’t listen to those lies, that the enemy likes to plant there. He will mess with your thoughts and tell you do not measure up.
But Jesus’s voice is louder than the enemy and we must listen to Him if He is urging us to share with others. We may not know an answer to everything, but we can speak truth and hope into others through the experiences we have walked through and tell the truth of who God is.
Do not give into that fear that you are not “qualified” to be used by Jesus to reach others, because Jesus does not call the qualified, but qualifies the called.
If Jesus puts someone on your path, it is for a reason.
Chorus Repeats
Next section:
You’ve walked in her shoes
You’ve heard the lies, you know the pain
But He’s still the truth, He’s still the life, He’s still the way
This is such profound part of this song.
We all can relate to pain. To trials. The feeling of being lost.
BUT, through all the pain we have endured, there is one constant hope that will never change in this life: Jesus Christ.
Jesus says in the Book of John, “..in this world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world!”
His word is true and through Him, is the only life worth living.
He will show you the way and even make a way, when you cannot see one.
As believers and just human beings, we must remember how we felt in certain seasons in our lives.
Just because we are saved, does not mean we are done with our mission and faith journey.
Let’s not be too busy to reach out to others that are hurting.
We must be observant about who is around us, so we can speak hope into others.
Chorus Repeats
Last section:
But He’s still the truth, He’s still the life, He’s still the way
Could this be the day that you come to the rescue?
Jesus can and I believe does, have people lined up in your life path that He NEEDS you to speak His truth into.
You can be someone’s rescue. Someone’s answered prayer.
Yeah, it may feel awkward to walk up to someone and speak about Jesus to someone you do not even know.
But if Jesus is prompting you to share, you have to obey Him. Obedience ALWAYS reaps many blessings.
He knows what that person is going through and what one word of hope can do to their heart.
It is too high of a price to NOT share our faith with others.
Verses Incorporated in the Song:
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NIV)
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
I always hope and pray that the songs I post will encourage you.
But this week, I truly pray that this particular one challenges you, as it has with my own heart.
Will you risk one awkward moment to plant a seed of hope?
Will you risk one awkward moment to give life to someone else?
Will you risk one awkward moment to bring glory to our Lord and Savior?
And will you be ready to give an answer for why you have the hope and faith that you do?
That one moment and one answer can turn a lost soul into a believer of Christ.
If that is not a powerful miracle, I don’t know what is.
So, let’s go out and make heaven crowded.
All for Jesus,
Steph
A song that does challenge your heart and encourages us all to be ready to share the good news at any point or moment! I’m glad that you decided to not skip this song when it came on. Great lyrics ♥️
