Music Monday: Love Broke Thru

This weeks Music Monday:

Song: Love Broke Thru by TobyMac

This song is a song that is about Jesus’s love and the power held in that love. The first time I heard it, the lyrics that were being sang, struck deep points of my heart because at certain points in the song, I feel like that is me and what I went through at specific times through my faith walk. It is a powerful song about what Jesus’s love can do for ones heart. Hope it resonates with you as well!

I love how this song starts out. The person was just living an ordinary day and Jesus was the last thing on his mind. I feel that is how Jesus works in our hearts and you know that  it is Jesus working. When Jesus or something about your faith pops into your head out of the blue, that is the holy spirit working through you.

This first section of lyrics is crazy how close it is to what happened to me one night. Without getting into too many details, because it can be a whole separate blog post, but I was at my Dads one night, on a warm summer night and was just hanging out, outside and looking at the stars I felt the BIGGEST stirring in my heart. Something I never felt before. It was nothing that I was thinking about, but I knew God was telling me to give back more to kids in need. That was the night I decided to sponsor a child through World Vision. There are more details but when I first heard this song it stopped me and made me think of that summer night of my own, because it was exactly the same feeling.

It is amazing where God meets us. Even if we aren’t living the best way we should be living or sinning, God still wants our hearts. God’s love is so powerful. He can come into our life when we aren’t expecting it and when we need Him most. His love changes Everything for us. Any problems we are facing, He can break those chains we face and His redemptive love is incredible! God is love and when love breaks through us, it changes everything and our perspective on life.

We can be unlovable and on the wrong path, with decisions we make, but nothing we do changes God’s love for us and He will always want our hearts. I remember a point in my life where I was not living my best and making bad choices. But God loved me enough to pursue me, even through those times where I didn’t want God or put Him first. That is what is amazing about Jesus and His love for us: He just wants our hearts above all else. People will disappoint us in this life, but God is the one constant through all of life’s changes. We always matter to Him.

I like the part in this section where it says: “You heard my prayer in that broke down dusty room. It was the first time I said I’m yours, the first time I called you Lord.”

During the most difficult season of my life, I was just confined to my room, struggling greatly and felt all alone.  It was there in that tiny bedroom that I spoke and cried my greatest prayers. I was struggling to find hope. But then one night God spoke that hope into me and He heard my prayers, even through the pain and feelings of loneliness. I get chills when I hear this part of the song because it speaks to that time in my life where it was one of the first times I called upon the Lord to help me. Through the pain I was in, there is so much beauty looking back, because it led me to Jesus. I can’t imagine my life without Him in it.  It is amazing how these songs feel like they are so personal. It just goes to show that we are all connected and feel the same feelings in this life and we are under one God, who loves us very much. It really is mind boggling when you deep think it.

This section of the song I feel is very personal to TobyMac who wrote this song, because the details are specific to his experiences. Sometimes getting swept up into specific life circumstances and being surrounded by different people, it can be easy to get swayed into not living a life that would be pleasing to God. People can make bad decisions for years but not until God convicts you and pursues your heart that you realize it looking back on it just how far deep you are into sin. “Blind to arrow that headed to my heart, but You hit the mark”. God knows everything about us. He knows all the sins we have made and poor decisions, but He doesn’t hold any of that against us. He can use the sin and all the bad in our lives and turn it into a story of redemption and for our good. He is an incredible God.

We can take all the wrong paths but God loves us so much that He will always be there for us and always want us, no matter what. When you don’t feel pursued or loved by the people around you, remember that the one who loves you the most will always want your heart. God is enough.

Verses Incorporated in the Song:

Romans 8:9- “You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the spirit, if indeed the spirit of God lives in you.

I believe God communicates with us through different ways. God lives inside each of us and can speak to us even when we are not thinking of Him. A line of communication to God is always connected to us, even when we don’t feel like it is.

Luke 15:31-32- “My son, the father said, you are always with me and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

When we are not living in God’s light, God still loves us. And when we repent and know we were living in darkness, He is there with open arms and ready to welcome us back home. This verse from Luke 15 is from the parable of the Lost Son. The son sinned against his father and ran from home and disobeyed heaven. But the father was just happy that he knew he sinned, repented, and loved him no matter what. That is what God does and is for us. It is a beautiful thing when we were once lost but then found by God.

Psalm 107:4-8 and 14- Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love.

14- He brought them out of darkness and broke away their chains.

Hebrews 13:5-  Never will I leave you nor forsake you

God will always be with us and always love us to pursue our hearts, even when we don’t deserve it. You are not walking alone through this life.

Matthew 9:12- On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick.  But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.

This is a very powerful verse and felt I needed to include it with this song, because its all about being lost and found in God and being a sinner then experiencing Jesus’s powerful love for us. We are all sinners but if we repent and desire to honor God, we will be saved. It is an honor and a beautiful gift given to us to live eternally with Jesus, all because He loves us.

I love the last line, that God calls sinners. It is in our scars and poor decisions that we can come to know Jesus. There is beauty in our mistakes, pain, and sins, because they lead to Jesus.
