Today’s song is Different by Micah Tyler

This song is written in a way that he is speaking to God, through prayer.

 

I don’t wanna hear anymore, teach me to listen

I don’t wanna see anymore, give me a vision

That you could move this heart, to be set apart

I don’t need to recognize, the man in the mirror

And I don’t wanna trade Your plan, for something familiar

I can’t waste a day, I can’t stay the same

I love the first two lines of this song: He is asking God to teach him to listen instead of hear and to give him a vision instead of seeing. Hearing and listening and seeing and a vision sound very similar, almost like the same senses. But there is a profound difference. Hearing someone talk and truly listening intently are two very different things. And seeing someone and having a vision in life, are opposites as well. God can teach us more than anyone can and grant us wisdom and the person that is saying this is praying to God to change his perception and heart to be set apart than the average person.

Some times in life we could get influenced by this world too much and become a stranger to God and even ourselves.  No one can come to know God and NOT change. That is the most beautiful thing about our faith. God can change our hearts when we cannot recognize the person and the bad behavior we have been involved in. I also love how this song starts because the person essentially is displaying such a beautiful place where he arrived at. He wants God to be in charge of his life and wants God to change and move in his heart. His plan is far greater than our own plan.

When we come to know God, we will change, for the better.

Have you ever encountered a person that just gave off such a positive vibe and a light ? And you just wanted to be around that person more. That light and “different” vibe about them is Jesus. People of faith have a different vibe and light about them. People do not always know what that is and people can just call you a kind person, but that light and kindness is Jesus and ones faith in them.

I know that in my own faith walk, I have too prayed to God to be different than this world and I wanted to be changed and be more like Jesus. Praying with humility  and asking God to change the parts of your heart that need to be changed, is a sign that God does live in you and He will make you different because of your faith in Him.

Sometimes we can get into a routine, or get swayed into acting like people around us that aren’t talking nice or acting like Christ would want us to. Some times we can get stuck into patterns in our life. Negative patterns. That is when you have to listen to your gut and that still small voice inside you. I believe that is the holy spirit working through us. Telling us not to get stuck and not act like everyone around us and be different and follow our own path. It may seem like we want to be like people of this world but then we lose what truly matters. Our faith, Jesus and the eternal hope we are promised. Eternal pleasures are more beautiful than this world’s pleasures.

No one is perfect. We all have our flaws and all sin. Everyday.

But, God knows that and He still loves us. Even when we fall and make mistakes.

He looks at every one of us and doesn’t view us for what we have done, but who we are, through Him. The cross gives us grace and mercy when we didn’t deserve it.  All because of Gods love for us.

He will always finish the good work He has started in your life. You do not have to worry about how something will work out or how you will break that bad habit. He already has the solution before you had the problem. When they see me, let them see you, God. I know personally, that is all I want. For when people see me, they see Jesus. His kindness, grace and Love.

Psalm 86:11 – Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness: give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name

Matthew 5:14-16 – You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.

The world will notice your light and that it shines differently than others when you love Jesus and live for Him. Most importantly, Jesus sees that.

Matthew 16:26 – What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world yet lose their soul?

In this scripture, Jesus is talking to His disciples and explains to them that whoever wants to be His disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Him. He goes on to say that whoever loses their life will find it. Jesus is the way to true, meaningful life.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We are all sinners and far from perfect, but Christ died for us on the cross because He loves us so much. Remember that next time you feel unloved, someone leaves you, or not valued by people. If God loves you that much to die for YOU, just you, then who cares what others think or someone who couldn’t see that worth in you.

Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

When God pursues you and starts moving and working in you, He won’t just forget about you and not finish what He has started. He has a divine plan for you and loves you so much. You are His masterpiece. If you are still working through struggles in your life and do not feel where you want to be yet, do not worry. God isn’t finished with you yet.

Listen to that still, small voice inside. He will tell you where to go and what to do.
