This weeks song:
God Only Knows by: For King & Country
I love this song because I love what it represents and the main message in it. Which is, that when we feel no one recognizes us, God does. God sees us and walks with us through it all. He is our constant through every high and every low.
Hope you enjoy this song breakdown and give it a listen.
Wide awake while the world is sound asleepin’
Too afraid of what might show up while you’re dreamin’
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody, nobody would believe you
Every day you try to pick up all the pieces
All the memories, they somehow never leave you
Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you
Nobody, nobody, nobody would believe you
I feel this song starts out with somebody who is struggling in some type of way. And when we are struggling with something specific to our personal lives, we feel that no one understands quite exactly how we feel. We feel unseen and unheard through the hard times. I can definitely relate to that feeling. I think we all need to be kind to one another, especially with others we do not know, because you never know what that person is struggling with and they may be putting on a brave face everyday, but they are experiencing deep pain in their life. I know that I have walked through some painful seasons, and even now years later, the memories still remain and I remember that feeling of waking up everyday and wondering how you are going to get through the day.
Chorus:
God only knows what you’ve been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows how it’s killing you
But there’s a kind of love that God only knows
God only knows what you’ve been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows the real you
There’s a kind of love that God only knows
There’s a kind of love that
There’s a kind of love
Even though we feel alone in our pain and dark seasons, we have to remember the most beautiful truth in this life: God sees you and is walking with you through it all. When you feel unrecognized, unloved, or when you feel no one can relate to your pain, God does! He too has walked through a lot during His lifetime on earth. Jesus can relate to your pain, on many levels. I know what it is like to feel great pain, but I also know what it feels like to feel great peace through the pain. That is what God is for us. God records everything we have been through, everything that has caused us pain and made us cry. He knows when someone speaks badly of us and sees more than we do. He knows the real us. Our hearts when others do not see it. The greatest emotion larger than our pain, is love. When pain and grief can consume our days, God’s love is greater than everything we face and we need to lean into God and His love, the most through the difficult times.
Next Section:
You keep a cover over every single secret
So afraid if someone saw them they would leave
But somebody, somebody, somebody sees you
Somebody, somebody will never leave you
These words in this section are powerful. Sometimes we make choices and we wish that they didn’t happen at all. All we have are regrets. We get afraid that if people knew the details of our past, that they would judge us and not love us anymore. I can definitely relate to that. When I met my husband, I did not come to him with the best past and was afraid that if he knew all the bad choices I made, that he wouldn’t love me. None of us are perfect but, I did not feel worthy for a long time of God’s love. But I know that God sees all the choices I have made and mistakes and He doesn’t hold any of that against me. He loves me through my flaws. That is truly amazing to me because people can judge us harshly and leave our lives, but God will always stay by our sides.
Chorus Repeats
Next Section:
For the lonely, for the ashamed
The misunderstood, and the ones to blame
What if we could start over
We could start over
We could start over
Oh for the lonely, for the ashamed
The misunderstood, and the ones to blame
What if we could start over
We could start over
We could start over
‘Cause there’s a kind of love that God only knows
God’s love is restorative and life giving. God does not want the righteous, but he wants us sinners. All of those hard emotions that we can walk through in this life, we have the opportunity to come to know Jesus more and experience His deep love and peace. I have felt alone, ashamed of choices I have made, and definitely misunderstood at times. But God’s love changes all of that.
God only knows how we truly feel inside and is really the only one that knows and feels that completely, like we feel ourselves. So if you really stop and think about that, that should make us feel the most joyful and the most at peace. The One that knows us the best and loves us the most can feel our emotions to its entirety. No one else can feel that the way our own selves do. That is an amazing and beautiful truth about life. Through the pain, God is there always and feels it all with us and empathizes.
Chorus Repeats + There’s a kind of love lines..
Last Section:
God only knows where to find you
God only knows how to break through
God only knows the real you
There’s a kind of love that God only knows
God knows how to communicate to you the best way. He knows you and your heart and how to break through your life. God knows the real you.
I know a couple circumstances I have personally walked through, I didn’t feel like certain people knew the real me and no matter how hard I worked for their validation and to show them, I felt like I wasn’t recognized or seen. It truly is a horrible feeling to not feel seen or cared about by the people around you. My efforts were not seen by a few people around me, but I know God saw me and always does see me. He knows the real me. Just like He sees the real you. He loves you like no one else and wants you to know that you matter.
God only knows… ❤
